BOpS presents BOpSFest presents Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas' and Mozart's 'The Impresario'
BOpSFest: rehearsed, produced, and put together in only a month! For two days, October 25th - 26th, Bristol University Operatic Society are taking over the Anson Rooms of the student union! The first night, we are showcasing two chamber operas, Purcell's 'Dido and Aeneas' and Mozart's 'The Impresario'. And what's more, the whole festival is free for BOpS members!
PURCELL'S 'DIDO AND AENEAS'
Purcell's classic tragedy follows the passionate love between Dido, Queen of Catharge (Florence Pettet), and Aenaes (Julian Issa), a Trojan Prince. Despite their passions, the pair are deceived by evil forces! A chorus of witches under the control of malevolent sorceress (Matthew Paine) stand in the way of their true love...
MOZART'S 'THE IMPRESARIO'
'The Impresario' is a comic chamber opera satirising the rivalries, the egos and the divas of show business. The title 'impresario' character of Monsieur Vogelsang (Tom Castle) seeks to cast the lead of a new opera, and when two rival sopranos, Mademoiselle Silverklang (Anna Fitzgerald) and Madame Herz (Harim Oh), are both going for the same role, there is bound to be drama... Both trying to out-sing the other, both flirting profusely with the director! With some comically difficult arias, this promises to be a fantastic production!
Your ticket to BOpSFest entitles you to attend all of the Anson Room events occuring over the two days of BOpSFest! (October 25th/ October 26th)
